Principals’ Meeting held by the Division of Youth Affairs and Sport in conjunction with the Division of Health and Social Services

The Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) was invited on the 4th of November, 2015 by The Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport and the Division of Health and Social Services to a Principals’ meeting to discuss health, social and emergency issues in relation to their respective schools and surrounding communities.

The meeting was divided into five (5) segments:

  •  Presentation by the Alcohol and Drug Prevention Programme wherein issues of substance abuse among primary and secondary schools were discussed.
  •  Presentation by the County Medical Officer of Health, in which the symptoms, causes, treatment, and prevention of influenza, and hand-foot-and-mouth disease were reviewed.
  •  Presentation by the Tobago Rehabilitation and Empowerment Centre which discussed the treatments, programs and support provided by the Centre.
  •  Presentation by the Children and Family Unit outlining the aims of the unit and what programmes are offered by the unit

Lastly, the Tobago Emergency Management Agency’s presentation, which focused on roles and responsibility of TEMA, the development of comprehensive emergency plans for schools, and the objectives of the National Emergency Exercise Day “N.E.E.D”.

The principals where able to highlight their health and safety issues and given guidelines of how to treat with problems and concerns arising in their school and community.
