Tropical Storm Erika hits Dominca

Over the last week tropical storm Erika affected the country of Dominica, leaving thousands of persons without electricity and in worst cases without homes.

The contry was innuadated with rainfall meseauring at approximately 12inches. The small island of Dominica with the population of 72,000 persons was hit by tropical storm Erika resulting in mudslides and flooding, leaving approximately 25 persons dead and a number of persons missing.

The island of Dominica is located in the Lesser Antilies region of the Caribbean Sea south-southeast of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique. The Prime Minister of the island stated that island had been set back 20years as a result of Tropical storm Erika. He further went on to say;

“The extent of the devastation is monumental. It is far worse than expected,” he said, adding that hundreds of homes, bridges and roads have been destroyed. “We have, in essence, to rebuild Dominica.”

 

The island is currently calculating the extent of damage caused by Erika.
